Autism Open Mic at Steamworks Creative!
A Chance to be in the Spotlight
Celebrating its one year anniversary recently, Steamworks Creative is a unique venue located in Gibsonia, just north of Pittsburgh. It has been described as a listening room. Striving to provide a place where music could be the focus, John Vento, launched this innovative space to provide just that. As the venue only seats about 50 people, it has allowed music lovers to have an up-close personal experience with these performers. Vento a local businessman, lead singer for the Nied’s Hotel Band, and solo artist, has welcomed a variety of musicians, many of them local artists, into Steamworks Creative. The feedback has been outstanding.
The second Sunday of every month from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. the stage is open for those with Autism as well as others who wish to share their talent. The goal is to create an environment where everyone feels welcomed and comfortable as they put themselves in the spotlight. The venue provides keyboards, guitars, amps, and percussion. They also provide pizza and pop. The event is supported by Band Together, Arts for Autism Foundation of Pittsburgh, and the Autism Society of Pittsburgh.
John Vento along with Ron “Moondog” Esser, a local business man involved in the Pittsburgh music scene for over 30 years, have developed the non-profit organization Band Together Pittsburgh. As stated on their website https://www.bandtogetherpgh.org/ :
The mission of Band Together Pittsburgh is to utilize the universal effectiveness of music to engage, inspire, and enrich the lives of youth on the autism spectrum and their families.
Jim Donovan and his drumming circle will be at Steamworks on Feb 11th, Apr. 8th, Jun 10th, Aug 12th, Oct. 14th, and Dec 9th. If you’ve been part of our Milestone HCQU Events with Jim Donovan, you know what a fun, interactive time that is.
