The Woodlands
As a former camper, camp counselor and camp director, the arrival of spring brings wonderful memories of the many life lessons I learned during those glorious experiences.
Have you heard about the Woodland Foundation? It is a facility that hosts camps and retreats for children and adults with disabilities and chronic illnesses year round.
The programs offered provide support and strengthen development of socialization skills, creative expression, environmental awareness, recreation, and spirituality. The Woodlands’ programs are designed to be fun, encouraging hands-on experiences with cooking, music, art, and sports activities.
Children’s programs are planned to address development needs. The choice of day or evening programs are ideal for young participants not ready for overnight activities.
Adolescent and Teen programs offer opportunities for social interaction, a wide range of recreational activities, and clubs that provide outlets for individuals to express themselves.
The Woodlands understands that adults benefit from new experiences the will inspire personal growth and independence through inclusive experiences that provide enrichment for all disabilities. This also gives care takers a chance for respite.
Several individual barrier free centers such as a meditation center, aquatics center, a clubhouse, and fitness gym are part of the Woodlands experience. There is also a golf course and sports court that can be used for recreation, team building, and performances by campers.
One of the most exciting attractions is the Zipline which is accessible to all abilities. Participants are securely harnessed in an adapted seat, suited with helmets, and safety trained by a certified Woodland’s staff member.
