Introducing the DSP Handbook App!
February 17 is National Caregivers Day! In honor of this auspicious day, we have a gift for you!
If you support someone with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD) and autism, Milestone HCQU West has a great new tool for you. We’ve worked closely with agencies, families, communities, and people with IDD for over 22 years and in that time, we learned a lot about the needs of our communities and the people we support – YOU! We poured everything we’ve learned into our new app, The DSP Handbook! And it’s 100% free to download and use!
Maybe the person you support has a physical or psychiatric condition you’d like to know more about, so you go online looking for information. You find some great facts about symptoms and risk factors, but very little, if anything at all, about whether risks are different for the person you support or how someone who is nonverbal might express symptoms. And anything you do find is very clinical and hard to digest. Sound familiar? All the information on the DSP Handbook app is geared toward working with people with IDD and autism!
In our app you will find the following resources:
- DSP Self-Care
- Healthy Eating & Physical Activity
- Fatal Five Pocket Guide
- De-escalation
- Dual Diagnosis
- Going to the Hospital
- Grief Support
- Medication Administration
Register on the app to get access to our premium content which is also 100% FREE!! Creating an account gives you access to:
- Virtual Fun & Fitness – our 52-week video fitness series with Adaptive Physical Fitness Instructor, Marena Toth! The series includes warm-up, workout, and cool-down exercises that gradually increase in intensity as the program progresses. Marena includes suggestions for adapting exercises based on what a person is able to do. The program also includes resources for exercise equipment used in the videos and suggestions for household items that can be used as a substitute for equipment.
- Delicious, Healthy recipes – developed by our favorite dietitian, Laura Yautz. These recipes are easy to make and feature step-by-step instructions with pictures to help even the novice cook serve up delectable homemade meals with ease. How about some Chewy Granola Bars for breakfast? Or maybe a Chicken and Broccoli Casserole for dinner?
- Learning Bytes – bite-sized videos, no more than 5 minutes long, designed to provide information in a concise manner.
