Sensory Friendly Films

Who doesn’t love a good movie?  I am not a big movie theater person, but every once in a while a movie comes along that I want to see.  Usually, I wait till I can watch it on TV; however, there are times that I want to go to the movie theatre for the full movie experience…big screen, comfy seat, surround sound, dim lights, big tub of popcorn, and an ice, cold drink!

For people who live with autism or maybe another special need, the full movie experience might be too much for them.  They might prefer a different movie experience.  Perhaps they might enjoy more lights in the theatre, less surround sound, or even a chance to get up and move without someone getting mad that they are in their way.  If you know or support someone with a sensory disorder, I have good news for you!

AMC Theatres, the largest movie theatre chain in the world, has partnered with the Autism Society to offer a unique movie experience for those who deal with sensory disorders…Sensory Friendly Films.  During these movie experiences, the lights are turned up and the sound is turned down.  Movie goers can get out of their seats to dance, walk around, shout, or sing.

Programming for Sensory Friendly Films is available on the second and fourth Saturday of every month; these films are family-friendly.  Movies shown on the second and fourth Wednesday evenings every month are for a mature audience.  This month’s lineup of Sensory Friendly Films are 80 for Brady, Puss in Boots:  The Last Wish, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.  Films will vary at specific AMC Theatres.  Click here to check on participating theatres, dates, and movies showing.  Now it’s time to go have a night at the movies!
