Popcorn for the People

Popcorn is a favorite snack for many people, especially if they are watching a movie!  I love a big bowl of popcorn covered in melted butter and salt.  How about you?

I read an article about an NFL team who is introducing a popcorn stand at their stadium for the 2023 football season.  This popcorn stand is different from others because it will employ adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).  Which NFL team you might ask?  It’s the Philadelphia Eagles.  The Eagles are partnering with Popcorn for the People, a New Jersey based company that employs people with ASD and other disabilities.  The Eagles have also partnered with Wawa to remodel one of their Center City stores into a production facility for Popcorn for the People.  With these two endeavors, they will be bringing many new jobs for those with disabilities to the Philadelphia area.  For every bag of popcorn sold, $1 will be donated to the Eagles Autism Foundation.  Money raised for the Eagles Autism Foundation is used to aid in autism research and care programs.

Popcorn for the People was created by Let’s Work for Good, a nonprofit company that “creates meaningful opportunities for Autistic adults and adults with other disabilities.”  They train and hire adults with Autism to cook, package, and sell the popcorn.  It started with Samual Bier, an Autistic man, who wanted a job just like everyone else.

You don’t have to go to a Philadelphia Eagles game to buy this popcorn.  You can purchase it online through their website, https://www.popcornforthepeople.com.  They have several flavors to choose from, such as caramel, Chicago baked cheddar, kettle, butter, dark chocolate espresso, and French toast.  For the true popcorn lovers out there, you can purchase a popcorn subscription and choose how often you would like it to be delivered.

Now that I’ve made you hungry for popcorn, why don’t you “pop” on over to their website to support this amazing company.
