Do you support someone who is prone to wandering from home or a program site? Have you had to call 911 when a loved one cannot be found?

Project Lifesaver, a program comprised of components specifically designed to protect “at risk” individuals, may be able to help you to be proactive in supporting a loved one or a person in your care.

What is Project Lifesaver?

Project Lifesaver is a non-profit, community based public safety organization. Their primary mission is to provide timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children with the propensity to wander due to a cognitive condition..

Project Lifesaver is offered in Pennsylvania and all 50 states in the US.  They use proven radio technology and specially trained search and rescue teams find those enrolled in the program when they become lost.

How does it work?

This program is run at a municipality level by public safety agencies.  When an agency decides to implement the program, Project Lifesaver International will equip the agencies with the necessary technologies and provide training. Training includes use of equipment and the implementation of strategic methods specifically designed for the program, and also community policing courses that provide a basic understanding of cognitive conditions to understand the behaviors of the missing individual.

A person enrolled in the program wears a small transmitter on the wrist or ankle that emits a unique, individualized tracking signal.  If that person goes missing, the caregiver notifies their local Project Lifesaver agency, and a trained emergency team responds to the wanderer’s area. Search teams use their signal receiving equipment to track and locate them.

Project Lifesaver is more than wearable locating technology; it’s a program comprised of components specifically designed to protect “at risk” individuals. If you need assistance with someone who wanders, Project Lifesaver may be the peace of mind you need to know the individual you care for is protected.
