Camping The Great Outdoor Escape

Camping has been growing in increasing popularity.  More and more people are taking their travels on the road in RVs.  It’s a great way to vacation. Many RVs are like personal tiny homes with all the accommodations you’d find in your own house.

Some places even rent RVs for those that don’t want to jump all in and buy one.
Still, some people prefer the rustic charms of camping in a tent. Another alternative is something called a yurt, as can be seen below.

Pennsylvania has some wonderful options for camping in our own backyard. This link Lodging Locations Map (pa.gov) will take you to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources where you can find a listing of the parks with lodging facilities and amenities with accommodations for wheelchair accessibility. Some of the locations also have Yurts that are ADA accessible. But hurry, reservations fill up fast.

If you like the idea of campfires and cookouts but don’t like the idea of staying out in the woods, you might be able to do some of the activities in your backyard.  You could grill some hot dogs and hamburgers, sing campfire songs, look up at the stars, and maybe even bring out the sleeping bags into the living room.

Don’t be afraid to venture outside of your comfort zone, just be sure to go prepared. Pack and plan accordingly. Don’t forget the first aid kit. With a little planning, camping can be fun and safe.
