You know Milestone Health Care Quality Unit (HCQU) West is passionate about education. We are an important part of the long-term initiative from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, Office of Developmental Programs (ODP). Our mission is to support people with intellectual disabilities and autism (ID/A). HCQUs were created in Pennsylvania almost 30 years ago and ITAs remain one of the biggest ways we support our community.

What is an ITA?

Milestone HCQU West provides limited consultation on matters related to people with intellectual disabilities and autism (ID/A). We call this an ITA or Intensive Technical Assistance. If someone is experiencing physical and/or behavioral health challenges, reach out to us. Our highly skilled clinical professionals are available to assist with any challenges you are facing. For example, we help identify the root cause and suggest strategies that may help. Additionally, we provide training for the person you support.

Why would I request an ITA?

Maybe a person with ID/A is struggling. Their support team knows more education is needed. However, the situation is overwhelming and it is unclear where to start. That’s where we can come in. We provide trainings on a variety of topics tailored to the individual and any supporters. Indeed, we can provide education around a specific diagnosis, relationships, good communication, and internet safety, just to name a few. Maybe a person is concerned about symptoms. One of our nurses can review information, bring a fresh perspective and help the person’s team with strategies for wellness. We even offer a simulation baby if someone is considering starting a family.

Although we cannot provide therapeutic interventions nor replace a medical provider’s advice, we can offer supportive resources. Whether you need more medical based, behavioral based or even a combination of both, our team is happy to connect you with resources.

How do I request an ITA?

Milestone HCQU West serves nine counties in Western Pennsylvania: Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, and Venango.

To request Intensive Technical Assistance for an individual, download, fill-out, and send this HCQU West ITA Request Form. Next, the person’s Supports Coordinator needs to submit the Intensive Technical Assistance to the person’s funding county for approval. All of our education and trainings are free for the person receiving support.

Our dedication to serve remains strong. Let us be your go-to resource. If someone with an ID/A or a support team could use additional information, let us know. Reach out to us today.
