Catch of the Day

Fishing is much more than fish. It is the great occasion when we may return to the fine simplicity of our lives.

With the arrival of day light savings time and arrival of spring, we can start thinking of all those outdoor activities. Fishing is perfect for enjoying the great outdoors, socializing, and escaping the busy part of our lives.

Imagine the cool breeze hitting your face, the calmness of the slow rippling water, and the majestic sky reflecting in the water making you feel like you don’t know where one begins and the other ends. This experience is before you ever even cast a line!

Believe it or not there are many health benefits with fishing besides just enjoying the great outdoors. Fishing can burn an average of 200 calories an hour, depending on the kind of fishing you like to do. If you are walking around to test out different spots, recasting your line, or reeling in the big fish, you will have put your heart and lungs to work! Fishing puts your patience to practice too…unless you are exceptionally lucky and you just drop your line in and hook a fish!  Fishing also encourages full body strength … battling even a small fish engages the shoulders, back, arms, core, and legs in an intense workout. Can you imagine the strength it takes to reel in the big one?

You can enjoy the peace of fishing alone or join friends and family for a fun and social time together. You can go out for a few hours to catch dinner or spend an entire day. Sharing a fishing experience helps strengthen relationships with family and friends. It also offers a person the chance to give back to society through mentoring others.

It also boosts your immune system by taking in some Vitamin D from the sun…But not too much… remember to bring sunscreen!

Fishing promotes relaxation. Our busy lives are sometimes full of stress and an endless stream of electronic distractions, with constant communication making it seem like we can never escape to find some peace and quiet.

Cast off and let your eyes rest on the gently sparkling water.
