Being Human

I recently read an article in which actor Clarke Peters says he misjudged fellow actor Chadwick Boseman.  Peters said he told his wife that he thought Boseman was a bit “precious.”  He went on to say that he told her this due to all the people surrounding Boseman and attending to things for him (such as a masseuse) during their filming of Da 5 Bloods.

As we have all heard of the passing of our favorite Avenger, the Black Panther, Mr. Chadwick Boseman, we know now that he continued to work hard through his terrible illness.  What struck me is the fact that Clarke Peters admitted to misjudging Chadwick Boseman initially.   Who does that?  Never admit you were wrong!  But I digress.  So often we are told quotes similar as the one below:

Never judge someone without knowing the whole story. You may think you understand but you don’t.

Do we really ever put these into practice?  The thing I love about Clarke Peters is his willingness to say he was wrong.  What I love the most is his ability to share it with the world.  We can go through life make assumptions and judgements.  We say things like “she/he is just like that,” “that is just her/ him.”   I hope you will learn from Clarke Peters history.  Meet people at face value, be kind, be open, be nonjudgmental.  If you find yourself repeating history by judging and assuming, remember:

“…the wise build bridges, the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another…”
