Time for a Change

As we know people with intellectual disabilities are often some of the most medicated people in our society. However, did you know they are often excluded from medication trials? But Bristol-Myers Squibb, a large pharmaceutical company, is aiming to change that.

Bristol-Myers Squibb will team up with a non-profit company called Disability Solutions. The two companies will work together to give people with disabilities access to join clinical trials so that clinical trials can reflect the real-world population. Bristol-Myers Squibb has a goal of increasing inclusion and diversity. People with disabilities are generally not included in discussions around inclusion and diversity. We know that people with disabilities have a large gamut of medical issues that may affect them in strange or unusual ways. It is key that their medical issues and the effect of medication on these issues be researched. Through research we can learn new ways of supporting diseases.

Bristol-Myers Squibb is a large biopharmaceutical company. It has a global presence. Disability Solutions is a subsidiary of Ability Beyond Inc. It works with companies who have identified the importance and value of being inclusive to the disability population.
