July is disability pride month. This celebration occurs every July and it is in honor of when the Americans with Disability Act was signed into law on July 28, 1990.  The first official celebration of Disability Pride Month occurred in July 2015 when former New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio, declared July Disability Pride month.

About The Flag

The flag was originally created in 2019 by Magill, but was redesigned in 2021 to make it more accessible for those with visual impairments. Each color band represents a different kind of disability. The colored bands are placed parallel to each other to symbolize solidarity between those with different disabilities.

Green: Sensory disabilities

Blue: Psychosocial disabilities

White: Invisible and undiagnosed disabilities

Yellow: Cognitive and intellectual disabilities

Red: Physical disabilities

The Gray areas are to mourn and honor victims of able-ist abuse and violence.
