Meet Maddie, the owner of Maddie’s Ausome Cre8ions. Maddie has always loved art and baking. She was accepted into Edinboro for Art Animation but sadly it was 2020 and Covid stopped that. Doing half of her senior year in quarantine like everyone else, she slipped backwards in socializing. Edinboro would require she stay on campus. That was not doable for her.

Maddie, along with her family, tried to find her a job. Finally, she landed a position at a coffee shop that changed owners frequently. The last set of owners let her go.

With no income coming in, Maddie then applied for SSI. She was denied 4 times.

Besides baking, Maddie enjoys reading and drawing. During the Covid pandemic, Maddie turned to baking to express her art.  She started making cakes for family members. It got bigger and bigger from there. After being denied assistance to be independent and left unable to return to school, Maddie and her family felt that their faith was sending them down the path they were meant to go. Her love of creativity was flourishing with baking. Maddie and her family decided to take a leap of faith and get the necessary certifications to rent a commercial kitchen for her to sell to the public.

Lucky for this blog writer, I needed (work related research of course) to make sure that the ‘leap of faith’ was worth it.  Let me tell you it was!  Maddie was first known for her hand pies; there is a reason for that!  I may not look like the pickiest eater, but let me assure you, I am.  Whether it was the raspberry hand pie, the coconut crème pie cookie with dip (yes, I said cookie and dip!), or the strawberry cupcake, none of them disappointed.  All were excellent!  As a person lacking self-discipline, I needed to share them with friends and family so I wouldn’t eat them all in one setting.  Every single item was delicious.

If you want to see some brilliant works of art along with previous cakes and treats, check out Maddie’s Facebook page. During the warmer months of April through October, Maddie’s Ausome Cre8ions can be found on Thursdays in Oil City, PA at the Curb Market or on Saturdays at the Farmer’s Market in Franklin, PA. You can just stop by and satisfy that craving! Maddie’s Ausome Cre8ions are also available for fundraising!

Before you non-dessert eaters (I hear you people exist) say ‘well this isn’t for me,’ you need to know savory appetites are appeased here as well.  How does a Ham, Cheddar, and Chive scone sound to you?  Even as a sweet eater, I can gobble that up!

I could go on and on about each delicious item.  But really you need to try it yourself. Trying to narrow down on the selection?  If it helps, Maddie says her favorite thing to bake is “anything with peanut butter.” The holidays are coming, make your life easy and order your baked goods from Maddie’s Ausome Cre8ions!

Maddie understands (from working with different employers) that people like her are often taken advantage of and are not always treated fairly. She wants to open her own place where she can employ others like her. She hopes to offer them a safe and fun work environment. Maddie’s Mom, Heather, says “I will do what I can for her and others to make this happen.”

When asked what she liked best about working for herself, Maddie replied, ”I can be CREATIVE and ALWAYS try new things.”  So, where does Maddie go from here?  The sky seems to be the limit!
